AI just found a hole in 70% of the internet
Is your website safe? Here is what happened, what a security patch is, and the one question to ask your web team today.
📰 Today's news
AI helped security teams discover critical flaws in PHP, the programming language behind about 70% of the world's websites. Website owners rushed to install fixes, and some government and company sites went offline for a short time while they were patched.
💡 Learn the basics: What is a security patch?
Software sometimes has hidden weak spots that attackers can use to break in. A patch is an update that closes that weak spot. AI can now find these weak spots faster than people, which helps defenders, but it means patching quickly matters more than ever.
🏢 Why it matters for your business
If your business has a website, there is a good chance it runs on PHP, often through WordPress. When a flaw like this becomes public, attackers start scanning for websites that have not been updated. The fix is usually simple, an update, but only if someone actually installs it. AI is speeding up both sides: defenders find weak spots faster, and so do attackers, so the time you have to update is getting shorter.
✅ Try this today
Ask whoever runs your website one question: "Is our site and everything on it up to date?" If you use WordPress, update the core, your theme and your plugins today.
Quick answers
Does this affect my WordPress website?
WordPress runs on PHP, so it is worth checking. Ask your hosting company or web developer whether PHP and WordPress are up to date, and keep your theme and plugins updated too.
How did AI find these flaws?
AI tools can read large amounts of code and spot patterns that point to weak spots much faster than people can. Security teams use them to find and fix problems before attackers do.
